This summer, the Bolayo cultivation pot will participate in the Summer of Innovation at the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk. This inspiring exhibition packed with innovations can be visited all summer and there are several guided tours along the exhibition. Our new, innovative, sustainable cultivation pot Bolayo is shown in our stand at the exhibition. Monday July 20 there was an opening where every participant was allowed to give a short pitch about the innovation. This was very interesting, with very innovative participants. The Summer of Innovation is open until September 4, 2020 and is definitely worth a (online) visit.
This week, for the first time, the Bolayo cultivation pot was put on the market by a grower. The pot is part of the plastic-free concept of Mulders Sierteelt from Middelbeers. The plastic-free Physalis Peruviana (Inca Gouda) from Mulders Sierteelt, with the sustainable Bolayo cultivation pot, was nominated for the Greennovation Award in September 2019. Now this new, innovative concept is for sale for the first time at the auction or FloraExchange.
The edible Physalis Peruviana (Inca Gouda) has been certified sustainably grown by Mulders Sierteelt, with the MPS Global GAP FV certificate for the growing conditions and the MPS GRASP certificate for the social conditions. In addition, Mulders Sierteelt has a bee hotel in the yard and the residual water is collected in a bio ditch, cleaned and reused in a natural way. Mulders Sierteelt received the Agrofood Plume from the province of Brabant for this in 2018.
The plant is cultivated and delivered in the sustainable Bolayo cultivation pot instead of a plastic cultivation pot. This pot consists of 100% natural raw materials and is biodegradable. Replacing the plastic cultivation pot reduces the use of fossil raw materials, prevents plastic litter and also reduces the CO2 score of the plant. The innovative Bolayo pot proves to be a responsible replacement for the plastic pot in various crops. The pot withstands the process of potting and cultivation and ultimately ensures a beautiful and natural product for the consumer.
The pot in combination with the Physalis Peruviana, which offers the consumer the opportunity to grow the healthy Inca Goldberry in their own garden, is a unique concept. Both in terms of the plant and the material for cultivation. The sales concept of the plastic-free Inca Goldberry is completed with a plastic-free label and a cardboard Ecoclicktray. As a result, all plastic elements have been replaced for sustainable alternatives to natural materials. This concept is proof that the plastic-free plant is possible for various crops.
The Platform Meeting “The Green Heart Works” on November 27 was a great success. WPT Biobased has pitched here about Bolayo, the sustainable cultivation pot, together with various other sustainable companies from the region. The after movie (in Dutch) is now online:
The Bolayo cultivation pot from WPT Biobased is, together with Mulders Sierteelt, nominated for the Greenovation Award, with the entry “Physalis Peruviana (Inca Cape berry) in sustainable Bolayo cultivation pot”. The Greenovation Award is presented during by Royal Flora Holland during the Trade Fair Aalsmeer 2019.
The edible Physalis Peruviana (Inca Cape berry) is certified sustainably grown by Mulders Sierteelt, in terms of both growing and social conditions. The plant is grown plastic-free with our Bolayo cultivation pot and plastic-free label produced by Joh. Enschede Amsterdam.
The entire concept consists of 100% natural materials and is biodegradable, it reduces the use of plastic and fossil materials, prevents plastic litter and reduces the CO2 emission. The pot and packaging in combination with the Physalis Peruviana, which offers the consumer the possibility to grow the healthy Inca Cape berry in their own garden, is a unique concept.
Information about the award:
By becoming a member of Benefits of Nature, WPT Biobased endorses the need for measurable improvements in the sustainability of the horticultural sector.
Benefits of Nature sees three steps towards sustainability.
MEASURING – Efficient sustainability starts with measuring: how sustainable is the company? Measuring provides insight into where the fastest, cheapest and easiest can be made sustainable.
IMPROVE – How can sustainability be improved? It can be as simple as switching to renewable energy or replacing one resource with another. We know this by first measuring!
INNOVATION – Major steps in sustainability can be taken by working together in the chain to develop new products and systems. Together we can become more sustainable and increase the margins!
WPT Biobased endorses and supports the Benefits of Nature approach and wants to contribute to a more sustainable horticultural sector with the network of founding fathers and proud members. The environmental impact of the Bolayo cultivation pot will be determined and improved according to the Benefits of Nature method.
